When do you need an Extra Deepwell hand pump?
A standard India Mark 2 is designed for pumping lifts of up to about 50 metres. Below that, the load on the handle, chain and rods becomes too high for the standard pump and parts wear out quickly. The Extra Deepwell version is made for these deeper sites:
- Static water level between about 50 and 90 metres
- Borewells where the water level drops below 50 m in the dry season
- Rocky and plateau areas where deep borewells are the only reliable source

Check your borewell before ordering
The inner diameter of the borewell must be at least 100 mm. When you send an enquiry, please tell us:
- The static water level (and how far it drops in summer, if known)
- The total depth and inner diameter of the borewell
- Whether the water is known to be corrosive, acidic or salty
- The number of pumps and the delivery location

Corrosive water at depth
Deep borewells are more likely to meet acidic or mineral-rich water. Galvanised iron pipes and rods rust quickly in water with a pH below about 6.5, and the standard cast iron cylinder with gun-metal parts can also suffer. For these sites we offer an SS 304 stainless steel cylinder assembly for the Extra Deepwell pump, and recommend our PVC riser pipes with stainless steel couplings, which do not corrode and are strong at the joints.
